Out of area? This one’s for you.

Remote assessments are designed for families who are out of area, abroad, or unable to attend clinic, but who still want a thorough, structured assessment rather than a one-off video call.

This is not a live “watch the feed and hope for the best” appointment. Instead, the assessment is built around understanding what’s actually happening across your baby’s real day-to-day life.

Many feeding and settling difficulties don’t reliably show up on demand. Patterns matter more than moments. Remote assessment allows those patterns to be seen and understood properly.

Step 1: Detailed History

You complete a comprehensive pre-appointment questionnaire covering pregnancy, birth, feeding history, symptoms, and current concerns. This allows me to understand the full context before we speak, rather than trying to piece everything together during the appointment itself.

Step 2: Video Clips and Images

After booking, you’ll receive an email covering which video clips and images to share, and how to capture them. This includes guidance for anything that isn’t obvious, so you’re not left guessing what’s helpful.

Clips are taken in your own time, in real situations at home. These may include feeding, oral movements, settling, sleep, or behaviours you’re concerned about.

Because clips are captured across real moments rather than on demand, they often show far more than a single live appointment ever could.

Step 3: Review and analysis

I review everything in advance. This is where patterns become clear: how feeding changes across the day, how your baby manages the feed, where effort, compensation, or fatigue shows up, and how this links to symptoms such as reflux, wind, unsettled behaviour, or frequent waking.

Step 4: Consultation

We then meet for a focused consultation. Because the groundwork has already been done, this time is used to explain findings clearly, answer questions, and talk through practical next steps.

This is not a general advice call. It’s a discussion based on what’s already been observed and analysed.

WHAT IS COVERED

Remote assessments cover feeding, settling and comfort concerns across the whole picture, including:
• Breast, bottle or combination feeding
• Frequent, long or effortful feeds
• Gulping, clicking, pulling on and off
• Reflux-type symptoms, wind or unsettled behaviour
• Sleep disruption linked to feeding or discomfort
• Slow or inconsistent weight gain
• Concerns about oral function

If tongue tie is suspected, oral function is assessed carefully and we look at whether your baby appears frenulotomy-ready. Where appropriate, next steps are discussed.

WHY THIS APPROACH WORKS

Remote assessment allows us to look beyond a single snapshot. Many babies feed differently at different times of day, behave differently at home than they do in clinic, or show difficulties that only emerge when tired or overstimulated.

Reviewing multiple feeds, behaviours and movements gives a more accurate and representative picture than relying on one observed feed.

For many families, this approach is not a compromise. It is often the most informative starting point.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

• All remote assessments include the full pre-appointment questionnaire and advance review of clips and images
• Consultations are structured and time-focused
• Breast, bottle and combination feeding are all supported

Please note: remote assessments are based on advance review of information and clips, rather than a single live video feed.

If you’re unsure whether remote assessment, hybrid assessment or clinic is the best starting point, you can book a complimentary quick chat to talk it through.

FAQ

Is a remote assessment as effective as being seen in clinic?
For many families, yes. Because feeding, settling and behaviour are reviewed across multiple real-life moments, remote assessment often gives a more representative picture than a single observed feed. Where in-person assessment would add clarity, this can be discussed as a next step.

What if my baby doesn’t do the thing I’m worried about?
That’s common. Remote assessment doesn’t rely on one moment. Reviewing clips taken over time means patterns can still be identified even if something doesn’t show up on demand.

Do I need to know what the problem is before booking?
No. You don’t need to decide whether this is reflux, feeding, oral function or something else. The assessment is designed to explore the whole picture.
